10 years of Christmas With The Craftsman

christmas tree

Christmas is coming!! Break out the holly and the “missile toad” and get ready for a Craftsman Blog Christmas. This week, I’m recapping the best Christmas content we’ve put out over the last 10 years! I can’t believe it’s been a full decade since I started posting old house content here.

I thought for sure I would run out of ideas for content in about a year once I covered everything. Boy was I wrong about that! As I learned more and dug deeper into historic restoration I realized how deep this topic really goes.

So here’s a few of my favorites over the years from the blog, YouTube, and Instagram all in one place. Call this The Craftsman’s Greatest Christmas Hits!

#1 DIY Christmas Tree

In 2021 I got to partner with Krylon to create a “holiday project” and that got me thinking about what I could make that was a simple DIY project, but different from anything I’d done before. How about some stop-motion dancing cans and wood? Well, that’s the direction I went and I had a ton of fun putting together a short video showing folks how they could have a little fun with my favorite spray paint.

#2 ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas

How much fun did I have rewriting the classic Christmas poem for the old house lover? A ton! A plastering Santa, a ceiling that caves in and windows that won’t budge. If you own an old house you’ll love this poem and it’s a definite share for all your friends. Check out ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas right here!

#3 Asbestos Snow?

This one comes direct from my Instagram. If you’re not following me over there please go check it out. Lot’s of fun inside content that you’re missing out on if you only follow the blog. Nothing says Christmas like a little asbestos sprinkled on your Christmas tree. The fact that products like these and lead tinsel used to be commonplace leaves me amazed any of us made it through our childhood intact.

“Cleanest” asbestos??

#4 All I Want For Christmas, Please

Yeah, it’s my favorite Christmas song. It’s probably the only Mariah Carey song I like too. When you have a past career in musical theatre, rewriting a song for one of your singer friends to perform is just as easy as rewriting a famous Christmas poem. I’m not going to release an old house Christmas album anytime soon, but this song was definitely a hoot to create.

#5 Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

I had so much fun with this first song that I got the team back together a few years later and did the same thing with another Christmas classic. Seriously if you can’t laugh about the quirks of living in an old house then you may not be an old-houser like me. Give it a listen and have yourself a merry little chuckle!

There you have my Christmas favorites over the years! Thanks for spending time with me over the last 10 years and being a part of The Craftsman Blog tribe. I wish you all the Merriest Christmas and hope that 2022 brings the opportunity for all your dreams to come true.
