White and natural stripes

Yet another option for a painted floor.

  1. Good Morning!
First of all, I have to tell you your blog is wonderful, full of insight, character, and great ideas. The work I’ve seen in pictures is beautiful, creative, and nothing short of a work of art. I wish you were located in Milwaukee, where I am. Since you are not, I am hoping you would please take a little time to share some of your expertise. I have recently purchased a 1940’s Bungalow from my grandparents who bought the home in 1955. From what I can tell there appears to be 2-1/4″ wood flooring, under carpet, in the living area of the main floor. Then in the “master” bedroom, the wood changes to 5″. I want to pull the carpeting out in the bedroom and paint/stain it but there are huge gaps between many of the boards, some where u can see clear to the basement floor, where the gaps line up with the gaps in the diagonal subfloor sitting directly on the joists. The other concern is the 5″ wood boards are staggered, with lots of gaps on the north wall.
I am not totally concerned with the gaps between the boards, I could work with a rustic look. It’s the gaps that go directly to the basement that are the problem as I do not want spiders and centipedes feeling they are welcome. If I could I would love to somehow fill the gaps between all the boards and do something similar to the paint and natural stain “stripes” you did. I would so very much appreciate any comments or direction you could give me. Many, many thanks for your time. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it!

    Sincerely,
    Stevie Foerster
